How do you calculate vacation days between two dates?
Count both the first and last day off, remove days you do not normally work, then remove entered holidays that fall on remaining workdays. A Friday-to-Monday vacation uses two days for a Monday–Friday schedule, or one if Monday is a company holiday.
Check the count with a simple example
For a Monday–Friday schedule, September 18–21, 2026 runs from Friday through Monday. There are four calendar days: two working days and two weekend days. With no holidays entered, the result is two vacation days. Enter September 21 as a company closure and the result becomes one. That closure is an example, not a public-holiday claim.
Calendar days versus vacation days
A seven-calendar-day trip can use five working days when it runs Monday through Sunday. Your travel dates and your first and last days off may differ. Enter the dates you will actually miss work, then confirm the result against your team’s schedule.
What if I work weekends or a four-day week?
Select only the weekdays you normally work. For a Tuesday–Saturday schedule, uncheck Monday and check Saturday. For changing shifts, split the absence into ranges with a consistent schedule and calculate each separately. Check partial days or unequal shift lengths in your team’s own time-off system.
How are duplicate or weekend holidays handled?
A holiday is excluded only if it falls inside the chosen range on one of your working days. Repeated holiday dates count once. A holiday on an already excluded weekend does not reduce the total again.
Can this tell me how much PTO I have left?
